Josh Gray commits to State

On Wednesday afternoon, Rick Stansbury and his Mississippi State Bulldogs got their newest commit for the 2012 class in Lake Charles (La.) point guard Josh Gray.

The 6-foot-1 combo guard visited Stansbury and MSU Wednesday and thought it was an easy decision to make after visiting with coaches and touring the campus.

"I liked it a lot," Gray said. "I like the coaching staff. I like the coaching staff, the players, the community. Mainly the coaching staff. They showed me they want me and they need me."

The Bulldogs will certainly be in a position of need when Gray gets to campus, as Dee Bost, the starting point guard from the past three seasons will graduate next April.

"Yeah, that's a big thing," Gray said. "That had a lot to do with why I made the decision that I had made today."

The Bulldogs do have a freshman point guard on the roster in Deville Smith, but Gray said he expects to see the court immediately upon arriving in Starkville.

The opportunity for immediate impact is just one of many reasons Gray chose MSU.

"Just the coaching staff, the style of play and I think they'll use me when I come," Gray said. "I'm gonna come in and they're gonna play me. that's the most important reason I chose them."

Gray also said that he was impressed by MSU's brand-new practice facility built alongside Humphrey Coliseum, saying he checked out all the facilities for basketball and across campus.

As for his strengths as a player, Gray said, "I can score," but, "I'm more of a facilitator."

In addition to facilities and immediate playing time, Gray said he was particularly excited to be able to play with a talented young group of players already at MSU, including one he already knew.

"I looked at all that, too," Gray said. "They've got great players coming in there, like Rodney Hood. I know Rodney Hood. I'll be playing around some good players.

Gray chose MSU over numerous offers from schools such as Oregon, Tennessee and Texas A&M.
