NU lands Calif. safety

Northwestern has landed a verbal commitment from a Southern California safety, giving the Wildcats their third pedge within a week.

Terrance Brown appears to be one of Northwestern's under-the-radar specials. It was the very first offer for the 6-foot-1, 195-pounder from Los Alamitos, who was not in the Rivals database when he committed. He verballed to the Wildcats as soon as he received the offer and without ever setting foot on campus, according to, which broke the story.

"I was speechless," he told "I've been talking to them the longest."

Brown would become the 16th member of Northwestern's Class of 2012, and its second safety, joining Joseph Jones.

Below are Brown's junior highlights from YouTube. He wears No. 27 and plays safety and running back for Los Alamitos, which falls in defensive backs coach Jerry Brown's recruiting territory.
