Pitt won its season opener against Buffalo at Heinz Field on Saturday night, and the Panthers landed a recruiting victory, too, as Penn Hills receiver Corey Jones committed to Pitt.
Jones picked Pitt over offers from Cincinnati, Kansas, Maryland, Toledo, West Virginia, Miami (Fla.), and Kent State. He is the second recruit to commit to Pitt in as many days, following Taylor Allderdice lineman Tyrique Jarrett, who committed on Friday.
Jones' recruiting profile climbed over the summer, particularly after he was named MVP of the wide receivers at the State College Nike Football Training Camp. That camp featured a number of four-star receivers, including Eugene Lewis, Deontay McManus, and Joel Caleb.
"That kid right there," former Colorado head coach Dan Hawkins, who worked at the camp, said of Jones, "if you're a coach and you have to take a guy right now, he's your guy. He's going to make some coach really happy next year. He can do it all."
As a junior in 2010, Jones caught 23 passes for 302 yards and four touchdowns.
