The highest rushing total of the season also happened last week, with West Virginia true freshman TB Dustin Garrison rambling for 291 yards (on 32 carries) against Bowling Green. On Thursday, UTEP's Joe Banyard turned in the fifth-highest single-game total this season with 240 against Houston.
Our weekly Keenum update: He now has 121 career TD passes; that's 13 shy of tying the NCAA career record owned by former Texas Tech QB Graham Harrell. Keenum -- who has at least seven games left this season -- also has 1,258 completions and 15,591 passing yards, putting him well within reach of the NCAA career records of 1,403 (Harrell) and 17,072 (Hawaii's Timmy Chang).
Oklahoma senior WR Ryan Broyles had just four catches in last week's rout of Ball State, but they went for 109 yards and two TDs. He has 304 career catches and is 12 shy of tying former Purdue WR Taylor Stubblefield's NCAA career record for receptions. While he's a lock to break the receptions record, he has some work to do if he wants to also be the yardage record-holder. Former Nevada WR Trevor Insley has the record with 5,005. Broyles has 3,905, meaning he would need to average 122.2 yards in the Sooners' remaining nine games (we're assuming OU goes to a bowl) to tie the record.
Last week's game was the seventh time UTEP and Houston have played as Conference USA members. Houston won 49-42. The Miners have scored 253 points in the seven games (36.1 average), and the Cougars have scored 295 (42.1 average). UTEP and UH have teamed to produce 7,357 yards of offense (1,051 per game), including 4,594 passing (656 per game). The winning team has scored at least 34 points each time and at least 42 points in each of the past four matchups.
