Latest on Garrett Gilbert

On Wednesday, PonyPride.com broke the news in reporting that former Texas quarterback Garrett Gilbert visited SMU and attended practice.

Later that day, Texas released a statement saying Gilbert was given an unconditional release from his scholarship and the Texas football program, allowing him to find another school.

That school could very well be SMU.

It has been reported by a high school scouting service that Gilbert has transferred to SMU. In the same tweet, the reporter said that Gilbert had been granted his medical redshirt and would have two years to play at SMU after sitting out his transfer year.

When reached via text message by PonyPride, Gale Gilbert, Garrett's father responded with, "We have no comment right now."

SMU has not confirmed the transfer and our sources have told us that the report is not accurate at this time.

Still, it is evident that SMU is one of several programs that seem to be an option for Gilbert.

PonyPride.com first reported on September 23rd that Gilbert was looking to transfer and many schools were interested in his services including SMU.

At Texas this season, Gilbert lost his starting job after two games and then had season-ending shoulder surgery. Gilbert started all 12 games in 2010 and passed for 2,744 yards (No. 7 on the UT single-season list).
