McNamara meets new staff at UW

Madison West (WI) offensive lineman Aidan McNamara had two options for spending his Saturday: attend South Dakota State's junior day, or spend the day with his hometown Badgers for their version of the event.

In the end, the 6-foot-4, 270-pound McNamara went across town to meet with many of the new additions at UW and came away with a good impression of the Badgers' new-look coaching staff.

"I thought they did a good job presenting the new coaching staff and showing us all the improvements they're going to be making to the facilities," McNamara told BadgerBlitz.com Saturday. "And they emphasized the nutrition aspect of their program, which I think is something that other programs might not do."

Over the course of the day, McNamara got to meet with new offensive line coach Mike Markuson, and felt like he was a good fit for the school.

"Towards the end there was an o-line meeting, and I got to just meet briefly with coach Markuson," McNamara said. "I think he fits the style of Wisconsin football. He likes to run the ball, and he likes the way that Wisconsin can play football."

McNamara also got to meet with new offensive coordinator Matt Canada, who is handling McNamara's recruiting for the Badgers.

"We met him at the very beginning and we talked to him for quite a while," said McNamara. who also visited campus unofficially last fall. "He was really nice, and he did a good job of addressing the loss of coaches."

McNamara did not receive a scholarship offer during junior day, but got a good feeling for the Badgers and what they have done with offensive linemen recently.

"They're obviously really high," McNamara said. "For an offensive lineman, I can't imagine a better place to be. But I'm going down to Purdue next weekend, and I want to see how that goes. I want to kind of get a feel for some other colleges."

One potential limitation for McNamara is that the Badgers are planning on bringing in another small recruiting class, limiting the scholarship offers they give out this year.

In addition to UW, Indiana, Purdue and some Ivy League schools are recruiting McNamara. He was also invited Northwestern's camp this summer.

"It'd be great (if Wisconsin offered), but I'd like to see about other Big Ten schools as well," McNamara said.
