Washington commits

The Gamecock staff continues a strong 2013 recruiting effort, as the tenth verbal commitment in the class fell on Thursday.

Orlando (Fla.) Jones DE Devin Washington pledged to the Gamecocks, and became the first pickup for running backs coach Everette Sands since joining the staff.

"I chose South Carolina because it fit me," Washington told "I love the staff, the family environment, the team and everything about them. They know how to develop players."

Washington also cited the timing in the recruiting process as well as the academics as reasons for pulling the trigger.

"They have the number one business program in the country which was another sell for me," he said. "So I just felt it was the right time to make the decision."

The 6-foot-3, 225-pounder chose USC over more than 25 other major programs that offered him.
