After all, you'll rarely see Virginia Tech attempt a field goal after a 52-yard run by freshman running back J.C. Coleman.
But much was accomplished in the Hokies' first scrimmage today. Players who otherwise wouldn't have gotten to seen the field got a chance to impress the coaches.
There were a few breakout players, like Coleman, sophomore quarterback Mark Leal and wide receiver Kevin Asante.
Coach Frank Beamer had plenty to dissect from today's scrimmage and talked about the ups and downs with the media afterward.
