Fork Union Military Academy (Va.) offensive lineman Jonathan McLaughlin has told Rivals.com that he's committed to Virginia Tech. McLaughlin has long had a number of offers, but each were contingent upon qualifying test scores.
McLaughlin has been the Hokies' top target since four-star offensive lineman Dorian Johnson committed to Pittsburgh last month.
"I committed to [Virginia] Tech just a few hours ago," McLaughlin told Rivals.com "I told coach [Frank] Beamer."
McLaughlin had contingent offers from Virginia, Miami and others, but many had backed off recently.
Test scores still aren't fully available from McLaughlin, who hopes to be cleared to enroll at Virginia Tech next month, If not, he'll spend the next semester at FUMA.
McLaughlin graduated from Mauldin, SC but didn't qualify and enrolled at FUMA. Before living in South Carolina, McLaughlin lived in Danville, Va., which factored into his decision, as did a recent visit.
"What did it for me was coach Beamer -- both of them, coach Frank Beamer and Shane Beamer, coming for a home visit," McLaughlin said. "That meant a lot to me. Also the location. It's close to my family and that was important too."
