Texan Checking Out Longhorns This Weeeknd

Alief (Texas) Hastings' Alonzo Dotson plans to officially visit Texas this weekend, but don't expect the defensive end to rush a commitment.

"It's not going to be hard because I've been up to Texas previously," Dotson said. "There's other schools to consider and my family embedded in me to compare everything before making a decision."

Dotson (6-5, 225, 4.6) finished with a whopping 30 tackles for a loss, including 12.5 sacks in the backfield. He said he'll make the Texas visit with childhood friend and No. 1 rated tight end Tony Hills, Jr., who's from Alief Elsik.

"I was orginally supposed to go UCLA this weekend," Hills said. "But since the coach got fired, I decided to check in on Texas. Tony's going up there, too. So that'll be good. I'm not sure if we'll go on any more visits together though."

Dotson and Hills last hooked up on the gridiron when Hastings beat Elsik 31-14 on Nov. 8. The heated rivalry saw four personal foul penalties in the first half alone and possibly a few directed at the duo.

"We're friends, if you were a ref, you would've thought we're worst enemies," Dotson said. "We've played against each other for quite a while now and there was a lot of trash talking, but it's juts because we're so competitive, nothing serious."

Hastings, who won the district 19-5A championship, finished 11-3 after a 30-0 loss to Katy in the Class 5A Division II quarterfinals.

As far as other visits, Dotson is scheduled for Colorado next weekend, Oklahoma Jan. 10 and Arkansas either the weekend of Jan. 17 or Jan. 24.

"I'm not sure about the fifth," Dotson said. "I like Arkansas because they're a young program that's getting there. They're knocking on the door. They just need that extra something to get them in.

"If I ended up there, maybe I could be the difference and make an impact. Plus, they have a good education and a good family atmosphere, which I'm also looking for."
