Kansas commit competes at The Opening

For the second straight year the Jayhawks had a recruit invited to The Opening. Last year KU signee Colin Spencer attended the event after turning in one of the top Sparq times of the year. This year Jacob Bragg went shortly after committing to the Jayhawks.

Bragg, who is one of the top centers in the country, enjoyed his time with some of the top football players.

"It was amazing and I enjoyed everything about it," Bragg said. "The level of talent of the players there was unbelievable. I'm sure some of those guys will be going pro. Everyone there was good. In high school you go against one or two guys who are really good, but out there everyone was."

Before attending the The Opening, Bragg and his family took an unofficial visit to Kansas. During the visit he gave a verbal commitment to the Kansas staff and Charlie Weis.

He got a chance to know several players. He spent a lot of time around J.C. Hassenauer (Alabama commit) and Brian Allen (Michigan State commit). When he told some of the prospects in attendance he was committed to Kansas he got different reactions.

"I got a couple players who gave me little smirks or giggles," Bragg said. "It didn't bother me. If anything it made want to go to Kansas more. In a couple of year people won't be giggling I went to Kansas."

Bragg said he was in the process of calling offensive line coach Tim Grunhard to keep him up-to-date how everything is going.

The event gave Bragg a chance to see some of the things he can work on in the off season.

"I learned a lot of things and then some I need to get better at," he said. "I need to work on getting off the ball quicker and hand placement. These are things I can fix. They are little things."

Bragg is back home in Nacogdoches getting ready for the upcoming season.

"I've been back and working out," he said. "I'm getting in better shape. I dropped a couple pounds. I'm also working on my technique getting ready for my senior year."
