Charlotte (N.C.) Catholic running back Elijah Hood, the nation's No. 14 prospect in the Rivals 100, committed to North Carolina Tuesday, confirming rumors that he was soon to pick the Tar Heels after last week's de-commitment from Notre Dame.
Tuesday afternoon, just before 7:00 pm, Hood posted the following statement on Twitter:
I am officially committing to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
To everyone who has supported me throughout this process, I say thank you. It certainly has not gone unnoticed. I am blessed to have so many great institutions interested in me.
Of all the schools, North Carolina has endeared me the most because it feels like home. As the nation's first State University, the traditions and history of North Carolina make me extremely proud to be born here.
The North Carolina community, Coach Fedora, and his staff, have done a great job at Chapel Hill and I can only expect better things ahead.
Further, this decision will allow not only my family, but also my community, to continue to be a part of me as I grow not only academically and physically, but in faith and maturity as well.
This is entirely my decision based on what I view life and football to be about. I am excited to be a part of the Tar Heel family and I am excited to be a part of a football program that is already on the verge of great success. I will not be taking interview today. Go Heels!
