Virginia Tech lost its top recruit in the 2013 class, a big-time scorer earlier this summer. Now, it appears like they've found his replacement for next year.
Coach James Johnson picked up his first commitment for the class of 2014 tonight in Montverde Academy (Fla.) shooting guard Justin Bibbs. The No. 142 player in the Rivals150 announced his decision via Twitter:
Just got off the phone with Coach Johnson. Happy to be a #Hokie !!!!!! Virginia Tech!!!
Bibbs, who unofficially visited Virginia Tech Aug. 16, chose the Hokies over Xavier. He also had offers from Xavier, Dayton and Central Florida.
Originally from Dayton, Ohio, Bibbs transferred from Chaminade-Julienne High School (OH) after his sophomore year. This fall, his senior season, will mark his second at Montverde Academy.
Rivals national analyst Eric Bossi said of Bibbs, after watching him at the Hensley Memorial Run-N-Slam, "He's a wiry athlete who has improved his jump shooting, and he can get to the bucket and finish via the dribble."
