A little over a week ago, Pope John XXIII (Sparta, N.J.) tight end Ryan Izzo took his last official visit to Florida State. He planned to mull things over for a week before announcing his college choice.
True to his word, he made his decision on Monday evening. The three-star tight end is headed to Tallahassee to play for the Seminoles.
He announced his decision via Twitter:
Excited to finally announce I am officially committing to FLORIDA STATE university, thankful to God for all his blessing on me !!!
Prior to his visit, the 6-foot-6, 230-pounder already had a great relationship with tight ends coach Tim Brewster. But the visit gave Izzo an opportunity to get to know the rest of the coaching staff - a factor that was an important part of his decision.
"Oh it was great spending time with the other coaches," Izzo said. "Got along really well with all of them and felt like I started a good basis for a good relationship in the future," Izzo told Warchant.com shortly after his official visit concluded.
Helping the cause for the Seminoles was a balanced offense that Izzo observed during the first couple games of the season.
"They scored touchdowns with nine different players. Not the tight end this game, but with so many playmakers, you can see how involved how the tight ends are and all the players are going to get the football," said Izzo when describing the game against Nevada.
Izzo becomes the 24th commitment for FSU. He picked the 'Noles over Wisconsin, Rutgers and Virginia Tech. He is ranked as the No. 24 prospect in the state of New Jersey.
