ATLANTA -- It didn't last the whole game, but Virginia Tech's offense for the first time all season, could be considered, 'on a roll.'

The same offense that threw for just 59 yards in the season-opener against Alabama couldn't miss. Senior quarterback Logan Thomas completed nine consecutive passes to start the game. But in the end, as has been the case all season, it came down to defense in the Hokies' 17-10 win over Georgia Tech.

In the final minutes of the game, freshman cornerback Kendall Fuller intercepted a fourth-down, last heave by Yellow Jackets quarterback Vad Lee that preserved the win. Of course, that was well after an interception by fellow freshman cornerback Brandon Facyson, which ties him for the FBS lead with four interceptions on the season.

For the past three weeks, Virginia Tech has spent a few periods of its Sunday practices preparing for the Yellow Jackets. It looks like that paid off.

Defensively, the Hokies held a vaunted Georgia Tech rushing attack to 273 yards of total offense, 129 coming on the ground. The Jackets entered the game fourth in the country in rushing, with 354.3 yards per game.

But as has been the case for three game now, there's some concern with the kicking game. Virginia Tech made its first field goal in seven tries, but then senior Cody Journell pushed a 25-yard attempt wide left in the fourth quarter. Journell returned to the team after a one-game suspension for an undisclosed violation of team rules.

The Hokies are off a to a strong start in ACC play. The offense has some life, specifically Thomas, who's now two yards short of setting the Virginia Tech school record for career passing yards. But everything has still yet to come together. is your source for: College Football | Football Recruiting | College Basketball | Basketball Recruiting | College Baseball | High School | College Merchandise
