Bolingbrook (Ill.) senior four star ranked defensive back recruit Parrker Westphal (6-foot-1, 186 pounds) struggled with his college decision but moments ago broke the tie and announced the winner.
"It's Northwestern," Westphal said. "I really struggled with this decision for the past few weeks. I sat down and made a 21 point checklist of the pro's and con's and in the end the distance from home was the deciding factor for me. I'm thrilled to play for Northwestern and thrilled to have this decision made."
Westphal talked about why he decided to give the Wildcats his verbal commitment.
"It was really hard to decide between both Northwestern and Vanderbilt. Both offer an amazing education, great coaches, great football and really everything I was looking for in a school. In the end the distance from home was a factor. I want it to be easier for my friends and family to see me play in college. Also the stability of the coaches at Northwestern was another key. Coach (Jerry) Brown has been at Northwestern for 22 years and I know that the coaches will be there for the long haul. Otherwise it was as close as it could of been but I also feel great about my decision. I'm solid to Northwestern."
Westphal actually felt like he made his decision a few weeks ago but gave his final decision some extra thought.
"Honestly I felt that I was set on Northwestern a few weeks ago but that I wanted to make sure. I really had a lot of positives to look at from both schools. My Dad said it best when he said that it was really a win-win decision for me. I just felt that no matter which school I decided upon I was making a great choice."
Westphal talked about his expected role with the Wildcats.
"Northwestern see's me as a safety as well as a corner if needed. They also said they would look at me on punt return and some special teams. I'm just happy a relived to have this decision made. I just can relax a bit now and enjoy the rest of my senior year."
Parrker Westphal is verbally committed to Northwestern.
