Measurables: Fields reports that he is 6-foot-2 and 205 pounds, and that his best 40-yard dash time is 4.6 seconds. His max on the bench press is 250 pounds and max on the squat is 450. His vertical leap is 31 inches.
Statistics: Fields said that he had around 1,500 passing yards with 13 touchdowns against four interceptions. He ran for 667 yards with 10 touchdowns.
Favorite Schools: Fields mentioned Arizona, Boston College, Florida State, Iowa, Michigan, Notre Dame, Oklahoma State, Oregon, Tennessee and Texas A&M as schools that he was interested in.
The Skinny: Booker T. Washington earned a playoff birth last season behind its talented quarterback Joseph Fields. After being bounced in the playoffs by powerhouse Katy, Joseph looks poised to get some revenge.
"Well, we're going to make some noise this year," Fields said. "We have ten starters back on offense including myself. We were 8-4 last year, and our goal is to make a run at state."
Individually, Fields is sure to be a heavily recruited prospect. He isn't overly concerned with college yet, but he isn't shying away from the recruiting efforts either.
"I'm just taking it as it comes," he said. "I can name a lot of schools that are sending me mail."
Asked if there is one school that has always been a favorite, Fields had a quick answer.
"Florida State, but I haven't received any mail from them yet," he said. "I really like the tradition. A lot of good quarterbacks have played at Florida State. Bobby Bowden is a good coach."
When it comes time to make a decision, Fields will be well advised by friends and family. Fields' family is involved with the decision making process, and former teammates Terrence Thomas and Clarence Farmer, are giving him advice on how to handle all the attention.
"I really want to take my visits and look everything over. (Friends and family) are telling me to take my time, and really check out the staff, and really look at the academics."
"Some things that are important to me are Education, the coaching staff, family, and how fast can I contribute. My family is willing to support me wherever I go, wherever I feel comfortable."
Don't even try to suggest that Fields is an athlete. He is looking for an opportunity to play quarterback.
"A quarterback - that's what I want to be. I don't want to make a new adjustment. I've been honing my skills at quarterback for ten years."
