When offensive lineman Ross Reynolds picked up a grayshirt offer from Iowa late in the recruiting process, he was excited and quickly accepted. Now, that offer has turned into an opportunity to report in August with the rest of the freshman class as the 6-foot-3, 290-pound Waukee native found out from head coach Kirk Ferentz this morning.
"I just got off the phone with Coach Ferentz and he said that he was excited to tell me that I'm officially no longer a grayshirt," said Reynolds. "I'll be coming up in August and starting this year instead."
The original plan was for Reynolds to wait and enroll at Iowa for the second semester in January at which time he would join the team and be on full scholarship. Now, he is going to report for camp this summer instead after playing in the Shrine Bowl in late July.
"It's pretty awesome," Reynolds said. "It was exciting in the beginning to get the offer, but now that I found out I won't have to grayshirt, it's even more exciting."
