Crete-Monee (Ill.) High School has sent five prospects to Big Five Conference schools in the last two classes, but the school located south of Chicago has sent just one to a Big Ten program.

Three-star defender Omari Stringer will make it two in the last three classes after he announced a commitment to Indiana on Monday night.

"I've been to IU four or five times and on my first visit, I knew I wanted to be there," Stringer said. "I grew up a Big Ten fan as a kid and this is a dream come true.

"I love the relationships, I love the Big Ten, it's close to home and academically it fits me career-wise and sets the tone for the rest of my life."

The 6-foot-4, 205-pound Stringer started his prep career as a safety, but may be outgrowing the position. Indiana has a plan to utilize both his size and experience.

"I felt IU was the best pick scheme-wise. The 3-4 is what I am looking for and Coach (Brian) Knorr brought that over from Wake Forest," Stringer said. "They want me to play the 'Bandit' position, which is pretty much an outside linebacker/safety combined. They look for longer guys like myself to play the position."

Stringer is also excited to join a defense that has had some struggles in recent seasons, but is taking a new approach starting in 2014.

"Defensively, I think with the 3-4 now they will be more productive," Stringer said. "With Coach Knorr, just being around him and seeing how he is as a coach, I think the defense will be more successful this year. They have a lot of young talent on defense."

Stringer is the ninth commitment for Indiana in the 2015 class and the second from the Chicagoland area, joining three-star wide receiver Leon Thornton.
