Chris Sailer Kicking recently hosted the top 12 underclassman kickers in the country at an elite kicking camp held at Baylor University in Waco, Texas.
Twelve of the most talented high school kickers/punters in the country packed their cleats and jumped on an airplane to meet in Waco.
For three days and nights (July 18-20) these kickers had the opportunity to work and compete against the best.
Never before has a kicking camp been so small and intimate with such a high caliber of instruction and competition.
These 12 kickers had the ultimate training session in preparation for the upcoming 2003 high school football season.
"This camp was a once in a lifetime experience," UCLA pledge and California kicker Aaron Perez said. "I learned so much and got so much better by competing against the best. And perhaps the best part was getting the chance to spend time with my peers and talk about the recruiting process all of us are going through. Each and every one of us became so close - I talk to those guys almost every day now."
This past January Chris Sailer Kicking hosted the their first National Kicking Competition at UNLV in Las Vegas. More that 150 kickers participated representing over 23 states. The best were rewarded by making the prestigious "TOP 12" list. As a reward these 12 kickers were offered the opportunity to attend an exclusive camp to train together and compete against one another.
Here is an update from Chris Sailer on how those 12 prospects are doing:
Bubba Bradley, Cactus H.S. (AZ) Bradley is a tremendous field goal kicker and kick-off man. He was always in the final two or three in every competition. Bradley is a sure fire Division I scholarship kicker.
Anthony Bernatos, Central Dauphin H.S. (PA) - Anthony has a huge leg. He is very solid at all three areas of the kicking game. Bernatos will have a big impact on this coming high school season. He is one to watch - a definite Division I prospect.
Dustin Daugherty, Sandi H.S. (NM) - Dustin was the only sophomore to make the top 12, and he proved why. He has a great leg and incredible lift on his field goals. With two seasons ahead of him, look for Daugherty to be a definite Division I prospect.
Jameson Davis, Eagle H.S. (ID) - Jameson has an unbelievable leg. His kick-offs are deep, his field goals get up quick, and his punting can be excellent. Davis is a sure fire Division I scholarship kicker.
Obi Egekeze, Westside H.S. (GA) - Obi is a tremendous talent. He has the potential to be a star. He can do all three. Obi has verbally committed to the University of Maryland.
Juan Gamboa, Bellarmine Prep H.S. (CA) - Juan is the real deal. He will be a great Division I field goal kicker and kick-off man. Juan won one of the field goal contests by making 12 consecutive field goals from 50 yards. Gamboa is a sure fire Division I scholarship kicker.
Jeremy Ito, Redlands H.S. (CA) - Jeremy is a solid all around kicker. He can do all three and is one to watch this upcoming season. Ito is a solid Division I prospect.
Luke Juist, Strake Jesuit H.S. (TX) - Luke is a terrific all around kicker. He can do all three and do them well. He is a tremendous athlete with great potential. Luke is one to watch this upcoming season - look for Juist to impress, as he is a definite D1 prospect.
Loren Langley, Puyallup H.S. (WA) - Loren is a gifted kicker. He is naturally talented and has a great pop. Loren is mechanically sound as proven by the fact that he is already kicking field goals consistently off the ground. His kick-offs are deep as well. Langley is one to watch and is a solid Division I prospect.
Taylor Mehlhaff, Aberdeen Central H.S. (SD) - Taylor is a tremendous talent. He is a gifted athlete and kicker. He has perhaps the biggest leg of the top 12. His kick-offs are remarkable and his field goals get up quick with range. He won the kick-off competition and competed until the end during all field goal competitions. Mehlhaff is a sure fire Division I scholarship kicker and is ranked as the nation's No. 1 kicker by Rivals.com.
Aaron Perez, Charter Oak H.S. (CA) - Aaron has wonderful potential. He is a big, strong, athletic punter. Aaron is the best punter of the group, but is proving that he can kick-off as well. Perez has verbally committed to UCLA.
Brooks Rossman, Torrey Pines H.S. (CA) - Brooks is a gifted kicker. Mechanically he is perhaps the best of the top 12. He won one the field goal competitions and was in the finals in nearly every other one. His kick-offs are very solid as well. I look for Brooks to open up a lot of eyes this coming season. Brooks is a definite Division I prospect.
