Editor's Note: The Recruits' Rap is a semi-regular feature from Rivals100.com.
It'll feature the nation's top recruits talking about what's going on in the recruiting process in their own words.
This installment is from five-star linebacker Brian Toal of Wykoff (N.J.) Don Bosco Prep. Toal talks about the first day of phone calls, his unofficial visit to Boston College last weekend and his upcoming trip to Penn State. Football season has arrived, the busiest time of my life every year.
I receive at least 10-15 pieces of mail a day and usually two or three media guides. Two days ago, September 1st, was the first day that coaches could call. So in between practice and enjoying my last night of summer I was able to talk to three different schools -- Boston College, Colorado, and Miami(FL).
The coach from Boston College that I talked to was head coach Tom O'Brien, whom I met with Saturday after attending their game with Wake Forest. Though they lost, I feel that their team played well and that they have a lot of young talent.
The coach of Colorado was coach Cabral, their linebackers coach, who wants to get me out there as soon as possible. Miami called and I talked to head coach Larry Coker, and their linebackers coach. I really like what they had to say. They said they were graduating five linebackers this year and I would have a good chance to play. They also said that they were going to promise me anything and that the best player(s) would play.
The calls that I missed came from Syracuse, Virginia Tech, Michigan, Penn State, Notre Dame and Iowa. This had my parents busy last night as my dad prepared for the upcoming season while my mom took the messages.
Right now I have a lot of time to make my decision and I am looking foward to it but I have on thing on my mind -- Ridgewood, our first game on September 12th. Well, maybe two things -- a repeat as state champions.
This weekend I will be going to Penn State to see them play Boston College and to be a part of 110,000 fans I look foward to the experience.
