Blue-Chip WR To Visit Pittsburgh

The University of Pittsburgh has gained a reputation as "Wide Receiver U". To maintain its reputation, it is critical to continually add quality wide receivers to the Panthers football roster. It appears the Pittsburgh coaching staff has pinpointed a phenomenal prospect from the state of South Carolina.

Wide receiver Sidney Rice (6 foot 4 inches, 190 pounds) from Gaffney High School in Gaffney, SC will visit the Panthers the weekend of November 28th. He will be one of many blue-chip football recruits visiting that weekend.

Rice originally verbally committed to South Carolina University but opted to reopen his recruited several months ago. He was named AAAA All-State as a junior.

"Sidney is simply a great wide receiver. He's tall, has soft hands and he can really jump," stated Gaffney High School Head Football Coach Phil Strickland. "He has long legs and a beautiful stride when he runs. Sidney can do a great deal after he catches the ball."

Rice caught 38 passes for 735 yards and scored 11 touchdowns as a junior. Rivals.com ranks him the 16th best prospect in the state of South Carolina. He runs a 4.55 forty-yard dash. Sidney can bench press 230 pounds and squat 320 pounds.

South Carolina, Tennessee, Syracuse and Pittsburgh appear to be top four schools pursuing Rice. He has already set an official visit with Pittsburgh (11/29) and Syracuse (12/5).

"Pittsburgh is known for their high power offense. I can see why Sindey would be attracted to their program. He would make a quick impact with them."
