OUFans.com Juniors of the Year

With less than 24 hours until signing day for the Class of 2004, its time for recruits for the Class of 2005 to step forward and take their place on recruiting fans collective conscious. With the state lacking of top prospects in this most recent class hence Oklahoma only signing two in-state players - the Class of 2005 looks to be more impressive, especially when you throw in elite recruits like Reggie Smith and Phillip Dillard.

It might be hard to single out Smith over Dillard because both have the potential to be the state junior player of the year, so thats what OUFans.com is going to go with. Both Smith, the amazing cornerback from Edmond Sante Fe, and Dillard, the stud linebacker from Jenks, have been named the OUFans.com Juniors of the Year.

Smith, who is 6-foot and 188 pounds, does it all for Sante Fe.

I played mostly free safety this year," Smith said. "On offense I played some quarterback, running back and wide receiver. I think I liked playing safety the best because I like making interceptions and big hits."

And he does that quite well. Smith did impress at the Oklahoma summer camp last year and the Sooners are one of his early favorites, despite him not quite yet earning any official scholarship offers.

Dillard on the other hand, reportedly already has offers from OU, OSU, Tulsa and Texas A&M. His coach, Allan Trimble, compares him favorably to Rocky Calmus when he was coming out of high school.

We had Rocky here at Jenks, and its very possible that Phillip is better now as a junior than Rocky was as a senior, Trimble said. It should be fun to watch him play this year. Hes a tremendous player that has solid speed, is powerful and very physical. He loves to hit.

He led us to a state championship this year and truly we were a year ahead of schedule with that. There is not a better linebacker in our region. He was voted player of the year and all-state as a junior, which is unheard of in Oklahoma.

Heres an early look at several other junior prospects that will be making news in the state of Oklahoma this upcoming recruiting season. Stay tuned to profiles and updates on many of these recruits over the next couple of weeks and months here on OUFans.com.
