Byrd comments on Spurrier hiring

North Augusta ATH C.J. Byrd (6-3, 189, 4.37) will make an unofficial visit to the University of Georgia for the Georgia Tech game. Byrd, who is the consensus No. 1 prospect in South Carolina with 33 scholarship offers, has listed Georgia as one of his four finalists, along with Clemson, Southern Cal and Florida State.

"Yes, I look forward to going to Athens this weekend, seeing the game, and talking with all the coaches," Byrd said.

Byrd has scheduled an official visit to Georgia for the Jan. 14 weekend. He has already taken one recruiting trip to Southern Cal, and is in the process of working out January dates with his two other finalists.

There has been much speculation about what Byrd will do with his fifth official visit, which he had planned to use for Florida before it fired coach Ron Zook. Could Byrd use that visit for South Carolina if the Gamecocks hire Steve Spurrier, as expected?

"Well, there are so many great schools out there, and it has taken me forever to narrow down to four," Byrd said. "I think I like my final four and am going to choose from them."
