Georgia athlete: I plan on visiting UNC Jan. 21

North Carolina football fans might want to hope for some bad weather in the heart of South Carolina this upcoming weekend. Nothing drastic, but may just a heavy rainstorm and some lighting.

Anything to put a damper on Kenny McKinley's official visit to the University of South Carolina. The 6-foot, 170-pound athlete from South Cobb in Mableton, Ga., committed to the Gamecocks in November, but is still considering one other school -- UNC.

In fact, UNC is the only other school left that McKinely has scheduled an official visit, too. But, the three-star recruit's arrival in Chapel Hill depends on how his visit to Gamecock country goes.

"I'm planning on making official visit to North Carolina Jan. 21," said McKinley Sunday night. "If I fall in love with South Carolina on my visit I don't know what will happen. I don't really know until I take my official visit there, but I am planning on going to Chapel Hill right now."

McKinley has also received scholarship offers from Army, Air Force, Duke, Illinois, Southern Miss, Tennessee, Tulane (where he took an official visit last month) and Vanderbilt. So, why is UNC the only team in the hunt besides South Carolina?

"I like the UNC coaches and they are real down to earth," McKinley said. "They also have a big offensive line and it's a good situation for me. I could play early and would be a good fit in their program."

McKinley feels similarly about South Carolina.

"I could play early there, too," he said. "They also seem like an up and coming team and I think they will be a contender in the SEC soon. Steve Spurrier is also a good coach."

UNC receivers coach Gunter Brewer continues to stay in contact with McKinley, who will likely end up playing receiver in college.

McKinley, who is ranked the No. 51 athlete in the nation by Rivals.com, played quarterback for South Cobb and was recently named the Cobb County Offensive Player of the Year.
