As the head coach at Charlton County High School since 1990, Rich McWhorter has helped produce some of the best college prospects in Georgia. The Bailey brothers, who starred at Georgia, and former FSU defensive lineman Larry Smith are just a few of the standouts who have played for McWhorter's Indians. And McWhorter wastes no time in declaring that current Florida State commitment Justin Mincey fits well "in that group."

Mincey, who helped Charlton County win the Class AA state championship this season, is listed at 6-foot-5 and 265 pounds - but McWhorter said he is "still lean at that size."

"Once he gets on those three buffets a day in college, he could be a 300-pound guy easy," McWhorter said. "I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up inside at defensive tackle before it's all said and done."

Though Mincey racked up a slew of individual honors this season - among others, he was named the state Class AA Defensive Player of the Year - his production did drop some from his junior season because of injuries to both knees.

Mincey posted 89 tackles and seven sacks as a junior.

"He was hurt the whole year," McWhorter said. "He had torn meniscus (cartilage) in both knees. But the knee joints are fine, and he's already back to running [after having surgery].

"A lot of his accolades are probably out of respect for the way he played last year."

Mincey played a lot of tight end as a junior - when he was playing at 235 pounds - but he saw limited action there as a senior. McWhorter said Mincey wasn't needed on offense because the Indians boasted several quality receivers.

"We threw it to him three times, and he scored three touchdowns," McWhorter said. "When we did throw, it was usually for a score."
