Oden and Mayo dominate at the ISI

From the opening tip, which resulted in a lay-up by Paul Harris, the USA White squad easily handled the USA Red squad for a 103-83 win at the International Sports Invitational in San Diego, Calif.

Five players, led by the No. 1 ranked player in the Rivals150 Greg Oden, did the lions share of the damage for the White squad. Oden finished with an impressive stat line of 24 points, 13 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 blocks. Shooting 6 of 8 from the field and 12 of 16 from the free throw line, Oden was simply to overpowering for Brook Lopez and Tom Herzog.

The second leading scorer for the White squad Darrell Arthur came to life with 20 points, primarily on nifty back to the basket moves from midrange, 5 rebounds and 4 steals.

Bill Walker, once again, dazzled with his mesmerizing athleticism and emerging midrange game. He scored 17 points on 8 of 12 shooting and grabbed 7 rebounds. With his athleticism already well documented, the most impressive aspects of Walker's game were the passes and shots he made in the midrange area.

Also continuing to impress for the White squad were Paul Harris and Kyle Singler. Harris held down Daequan Cook to 8 points on 3 of 9 shooting. Cook did not record an offensive rebound or an assist either. Harris finished with 13 points on 3 of 6 shooting and 7 of 10 shooting from the free throw line. He also grabbed 6 rebounds and 4 assists.

Singler hit for 14 points on smooth jumpers and acrobatic lay-ups.

The only double digit scorer for the overpowered Red squad was Gerald Henderson. Henderson notched 23 points on 10 of 14 shooting and captured 6 rebounds. Stanley Robinson led the Red with 7 rebounds.

The White squad, who finished as the top seed in Group A will square off with Russia in the semifinals.

Even without the services of Thaddeus Young, the No. 3 ranked player in the Rivals150, the USA Blue squad had no trouble defeating Russia, surging to a 40-20 halftime lead and then cruising to an 86-65 victory. Leading the way once again for the Blue squad was the No. 1 ranked player in the class of 2007 O.J. Mayo, who poured in 25 points.

Not only did Mayo lead his squad in scoring, he also lead the Blue with 6 steals and 4 assists. The only downside of his performance was some careless ball handling, resulting in 8 turnovers.

Also playing another strong game for the Blue squad, Wayne Ellington contributed 16 points and a team high 9 rebounds.

After a sub par performance in the Blue's first game, Michael Washington revealed a glimpse of his very high upside, scoring 16 points and grabbing 8 rebounds, 7 offensive.

In the other semifinal elimination game Friday, the Blue squad as top seed of Group B will take on USA Red squad, who finished as the second seed in Group A.
