Northeast's Audie Augustine could be one of those recruits that shows up late in the game. Much the same happened with linebacker Geno Hayes last year.
The No. 53 ranked player in Florida may not have the same accolades as the Seminole linebacker, but he's a late bloomer when it comes to the recruiting process. At 6-foot-2 and 230 pounds, Augustine has been used as a weak side defensive end and an outside linebacker in high school. The athletic defender said he plans to play with hand on the ground in college. While he is sitting on approximately 25 offers, Augustine says his top four schools are FSU, Pitt, Auburn, and Oklahoma.
"I've talked to Coach Lilly," said Augustine of FSU. "He said I'd fit in well with my size. He told me about the players and how they always have a dominant defense."
Augustine says he's never been to the Tallahassee campus, but plans to make for an official later this year. This summer, he camped at Auburn but doesn't plan to camp anywhere else. As for the other schools in his top four, here is what he had to say:
Pittsburgh: "I know a player there. He said the college is good and the academics are good. And Coach Wannstedt, we all know his list. He came to visit me during spring."
Auburn: "I love the coaches. They are all very Christian like."
Oklahoma: "I really haven't had a chance to talk to the coaches a lot."
The Northeast High School standout put up some serious numbers as a junior. He had 76 tackles, 9.5 sacks, forced four fumbles, and had four fumble recoveries. His 40-time isn't to shabby at 4.67 seconds. He also posted an impressive 4.25-second shuttle run at the April Miami NIKE Camp. In the classroom, he carries a 2.6 GPA.
Augustine hopes to make his decision sooner than later, preferably before National Signing Day.
