FSU offers Tallahassee fullback

All the talk about Florida State and recruiting these days has been focused on positions like offensive line, tight end and defensive line but there is also a pretty big need at fullback. Seniors B.J. Dean and James Coleman both played their last game for FSU in the Orange Bowl. That leaves only sophomore Joe Surratt to carry the load this spring.

With one of the state's top fullbacks right in FSU's backyard, it's not surprising that assistant coach Kevin Steele extended a scholarship offer to Tallahassee Lincoln's Seddrick Holloway on Tuesday. That's an accomplishment that has been a lifelong dream for the three-star fullback.

"I was excited. I'm glad they finally offered me," Holloway said. "I always hoped it would happen and it did. It's been a dream."

Florida State has been recruiting the a 5-foot-10, 235-pound battering ram for a while and already had him scheduled to come in for an official visit the weekend of January 27th. News that Columbia, South Carolina's Aram Olson was headed to elsewhere may have expedited the offer, but Holloway has been on high on FSU's board for weeks.

With Tuesday's news you might think FSU, his childhood favorite, would be in the driver's seat, but the All-Big Bend fullback maintains he is still open.

"It's just another offer that I have to evaluate," Holloway said. "It's still the same at this point. I would say Kansas State, Florida State and Illinois (are leading)."

Holloway will still visit Michigan State this weekend before making a final decision, which he says could come as soon as next week. He has previously visited Illinois, Kansas State and Kentucky.

If The nation's 18th ranked fullback does as expected and stays home to play his college ball, it will be the sixth straight year that at least one Lincoln High School product has signed with the Seminoles.

This past season Holloway split time between defensive tackle, linebacker and fullback. In limited time on offense, he rushed for 413 yards, scoring five touchdowns.
