Lufkin QB fighting back

Lufkin has a plethora of junior prospects that are going to light up the recruiting class of 2007 next year. This includes their dual-threat quarterback Jeremy Claybon who has been working hard in the off-season to overcome a late season injury.

The 6-foot-1, 180-pound speedster was in a playoff game when he broke his arm. Since that game, rehab has been the focus and Claybon says that he's getting closer every day to 100 percent.

"I'm getting my strength back and I'm about to be released to lift weights," Claybon said. "It's feeling good. I'm just trying to finish up with rehab and get back to where I've got to be."

Coaches from Texas Tech and Oklahoma State are just a few that have been by the school to find about Claybon and his teammates. Claybon says he's not planning on an early decision even though his first offer could be close.

"There are a few schools that send me a lot of mail like Florida State, Virginia, Kansas State, Oklahoma State, Texas Tech, and a few others," Claybon said. "It really depends on who I'm hearing from when those offers come. Then I'll decide how early I want to commit."

Claybon says one major summer plan is to camp at Texas. The Longhorns along with a few other schools make up his early favorites.

"Hopefully teams like Texas offers first or Texas A&M, Tech, or Oklahoma State would be good too," he said. "If one of those schools come through, they make me feel good, I can get a good education, and play, I'll go ahead and get it over with."

Claybon says he would like to play quarterback in colleges. That's where he sees himself through his senior year and beyond.

"It's pretty much what all the schools are talking about," he said. "Other than the injury, I did pretty well last year. That's my goal in college is to be a quarterback and that's what I'm going to do."

Claybon threw for over 2,000 yards and 18 touchdowns last year while also rushing for five scores.
