Bulldogs add DT No. 2

The defensive line was a top priority going into the 2007 recruiting campaign and with that in mind two defensive tackles have made pledges in the last two weeks to be a part of that effort. The latest player to make his intentions known is Hazlehurst's Jazzmen Guy, arguably the top DT in the Magnolia State this year. What caused him to make his decision?

"I just feel like I can get along with coach Croom, coach Beamer, and the rest of the staff. They care about academics, and how you do in school. They put academics first."

Guy makes the second Hazlehurst athlete of the week to commit to the Bulldogs. He and athlete Damien Anderson decided to join the Bulldogs after visiting State's junior day last weekend. Guy plans to major in computer technology and business and felt MSU' programs fit his goals.

After intimating earlier in the week that he may commit to State, but that he wanted to take a few more visits, Guy decided to make his decision and canceled all other trips.

"I just decided not to go," he said. "I am committed to Mississippi State and that is the college I am going to go to." Guy chose State over offers from Southern Miss, Nebraska, Florida State, and Ole Miss.

Guy was in a car accident earlier this spring, and while he is unable to go through spring drills, he is well on his way to recovery and will be in good shape by the time fall practice rolls around.

"Things are going good," he said. "I broke some ribs and fractured my spine, but everything is healing good. I will be going through rehab soon and will be ready for fall."

Guy has a massive frame at 6-foo-5 and 250 pounds and runs the 40-yard dash in 4.8 seconds. He was selected to the Clarion Ledger all-state second team after leading his team to the 3A state title and recording 98 tackles and 17 sacks on the year.
