Coffeeville (Miss.) running back Lee Chambers may be the fastest prospect the Magnolia State has to offer in its class of 2007, and that speed has attracted several new offers. Mississippi State was the first school to step forward, and others such as Alabama, Florida State, Ole Miss, Louisville and Ole Miss have followed suit.
"My top two schools are Mississippi State and South Carolina," the 6-foot, 193-pound Chambers said. "I like most of the other schools that have offered me, too"
One such school didn't make a favorable impression on Chambers during a recent unofficial visit.
"I visited Ole Miss on Monday, and to be honest, I didn't like it very much. I felt like their coaches were rushing me through everything, and it was almost like they had something else to do. So, that didn't go like I thought it would."
Chambers, who runs the 40-yard dash in under 4.4 seconds, did have a memorable visit to Mississippi State earlier this spring.
"I went to Starkville for one of their scrimmages, and I was on the sideline while they were playing. Their players kept coming up to me welcoming me there and talking to me. They treated me like I was already part of their team, so I liked that."
Chambers, who ran for over 1,500 yards and 19 touchdowns as a junior, thinks highly of the South Carolina Gamecocks.
"I have a very good relationship with Coach Robert Gillespie," Chambers said. "He would be my position coach if I went there, and I think it's a big plus to have a such a good friendship with the coach I'm going to be spending the most time with. We can talk about football stuff and off the field stuff. I also like their offense."
Assistant coach Sparky Woods is trying to land Chambers for the Crimson Tide.
"I like how Alabama has a big time tradition. They're known for winning SEC and national championships."
Chambers, who had considered making an early commitment, has changed his course.
"I think I'm going to take a couple of official visits during the season before I pick my school," he said. "I'm just looking for the best place where I can play early, play in a good offense and in a good location."
