UM finds success in Indiana

The Michigan Wolverines play in Ann Arbor, Mich., but the way they recruit the state of Indiana, you'd think they have a satellite campus in Indianapolis.

After scoring numerous top recruits from Indiana over the years, the top two players in the Rivals.com Indiana top 15 are once again heading to play for the maize and blue.

At No. 1 on the list is safety Jerimy Finch, a hard-hitting, devastating and destructive safety prospect from Indianapolis Warren Central. At 6-foot-1 and 203 pounds, Finch is always around the football and he has a frame that many college players would die for. That frame and build could eventually lead him to play linebacker on the next level.

And, oh yeah, he committed to Michigan back in May, turning down offers from Arkansas, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky and Louisville to play for the Wolverines.

"When the lights go on, this kid comes to play," Warren Central head coach Steve Tutsie said about Finch.

The No. 2 player in the state is also a Michigan commitment - safety prospect Artis Chambers of Ft. Wayne Snider. The 6-2, 185-pounder is called a heat-seeking missile by his coach

Chambers notched 68 tackles and eight interceptions as a sophomore and recorded 53 stops and four picks as a junior when teams started to run their offenses away from him. He also saw spot duty on offense this past year, averaging 8.8 yards per carry in racking up 176 rushing yards (with a long of 80 and three touchdowns), and returned kicks, blocked two punts, even saw spot duty at quarterback and punter.

"He definitely a prototypical safety kind of guy," Snider coach Russ Isaacs said. "He's had about 11 picks in career and can really run. He's really athletic. He returns kicks and has been very successful in his other sports."

Other talented Indiana prospects in the top 15 include: three-star defensive end Ryan Kerrigan from Muncie Central, three-star athlete Joe Holland of Bishop Chatard, three-star running back Darren Evans at Warren Central, three-star tight end Max Dedmond at Evansville Central and three-star tight end Adrien Robinson at Warren Central.
