Florida State: Freshman offensive lineman Matt Hardrick was carted off the field during Saturday's scrimmage with an ankle injury. The offensive line has looked especially good in preseason camp. Linebacker Lawrence Timmons has been a disruptive force in scrimmages and drills.
Maryland: The Terps hope freshman receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey is back for tomorrow's scrimmage. He has been sidelined with a shoulder injury. Offensive tackle Jared Gaither and guard Jaimie Thomas both returned to practice Monday after a two-suspension. The knee injury suffered by safety Jamari McCollough on Monday appears to be a season-ending ACL tear.
Wake Forest: The defense looked good in Saturday's scrimmage. Senior defensive tackle Jyles Tucker was a fixture in the offensive backfield, recording three sacks and two other tackles for loss. Junior Micah Andrews had two long runs but both were called back. Freshman running back Josh Adams had a 33-yard touchdown run on the final play.
Coastal Division Practice Reports
Duke: It appears Marcus Jones will be the opening day starter at quarterback. Sophomore wideout Raphael Chestnut has been one of the top performers in the preseason, and although he has not cracked the starting lineup, expect him to see a lot of playing time. The team still has a number of options at running back. Justin Boyle and Requan Boyette are the most complete backs of the group, and one of them will probably see the bulk of the carries. However Ronnie Drummer has been the most explosive, and it will be hard to keep him on the sidelines.
Miami: The 'Canes remain very thin at wide receiver despite moving freshman cornerback Ryan Hill to the offense. Junior Terrell Walden remains out and Tuesday sophomore Khalil Jones wore a protective boot on his sprained ankle. One receiver who is healthy, Lance Leggett made a great 45-yard catch in Tuesday's scrimmage. Javarris James worked as the second-team running back during the scrimmage.
Virginia:Eugene Monroe is still favoring his surgically repaired knee. The 6-6 315-pound sophomore is expected to replace D'Brickashaw Ferguson as the team's left tackle this season. Senior Fontel Mines is now the go-to receiver with Deyon Williams out with a broken foot.
Virginia Tech: The defensive line controlled the scrimmage on Saturday, giving the offense very little room to run. Branden Ore was the only back to break the 10 yard mark for the day, rushing for 29 yards on five carries. Xavier Adibi, Dorian Porch and Barry Booker each recorded four tackles during the scrimmage.
