Louisiana TE talks about Ole Miss visit

Every player looks for something different on an official visit and for tight end David Rue, it was about the guys who will be his future teammates.

The Monroe (Richwood HS), La. native committed to Ole Miss last July and since then he has built relationships with many of the players like his hosts - BenJarvus Green-Ellis and Marshay Green - who are also Louisiana natives..

"The players make you feel like you were at home," Rue said "They do their best to try to make you feel comfortable. I already knew BenJarvus and Marshay Green before this. They were good, they hosted me and Joe McKnight."

"It made me more comfortable in my decision," Rue said.

How he came to his decision in the first place was an opportunity to play early in his career, something he and the coaches have been talking about through out the process.

"Really it was me playing my freshmen year," Rue said. "Coach 'O' said I could compete for a job, they said they don't have anybody like me."

They spent a little time over the weekend discussing Rue's future in the offense.

"They talked a little bit about how they're going use me," Rue said. "They said some things about putting me in the slot a little bit. They showed me a little bit, but not too much."

Several of the recruits have talked about how Rebel head coach Ed Orgeron was fired up over the weekend. Rue, like the others, enjoyed seeing that type of attitude in the head coach.

"That was pretty crazy, it was good to see the coaches fired up about the players they could be getting," Rue said.

Rue will provide the Rebels a good size target at 6-foot-6-inches and 250 pounds. He said he was timed at 4.67 seconds in the 40 before the season.

Rue said he got all B's last semester and that his grades are in good shape. He recently scored an 15 on his ACT and scheduled to take it again in February.

A 17 on the ACT is required with a 2.5 GPA, however, a higher GPA can off set a lower ACT under the NCAA's sliding scale.
