SOUTH BEND, Ind. - Luke Harangody scored 22 points and Tory Jackson added 21 - both career highs - to lead Notre Dame to an 85-73 victory over No. 16 Marquette on Saturday.

The Irish trailed by as many as 13 points midway through the first half, but used an 11-0 run late to take a 42-36 halftime lead. Marquette cut the lead to 42-40 early in the first half, but Colin Falls hit a 3 and scored on a rebound to extend the lead to seven points.

The Golden Eagles cut the lead to 54-50 when Wesley Matthews scored on a fastbreak with 14:08 left. But Luke Zeller hit a 3 for the Irish and Marquette never got closer than seven points.

The Irish (22-6, 10-5), who finished the season unbeaten at home and beat a ranked team for the fourth time this season, can clinch a bye in the first round of the Big East tournament with a win at Rutgers on March 3. The Golden Eagles (22-8, 9-6) have lost four of their last five.

Harangody also matched his career high with 13 rebounds. Colin Falls added 14 points, including four 3-pointers. Russell Carter added 13 points and eight rebounds.

Matthews led Marquette with 17 points before fouling out with 5 minutes left. Jerel McNeal added 16 points and Dominic James had 14 points on 6-of-20 shooting. David Cubillan added 10 points for Marquette, which shot 36 percent.

Emotions ran high throughout much of the game, with three technicals called.

James was slow getting up after a knee to knee collision with Harangody with 5:54 left in the game, but didn't leave the game. Tempers flared again when Harangody fouled McNeal hard late in the game.

It appeared early on as if the Irish winning streak would end at 17 games. The Golden Eagles made their first six shots, jumping to a 13-3 lead early while Notre Dame couldn't find its shot. The Irish opened the game 1-of-10 from the floor.

Though it was just the second home sellout for Notre Dame, the Marquette fans ringing the top of the arena were louder than the Irish fans early.

The game ended, though, with the Notre Dame student section chanting, "This is our house."
