Miles falls from top coaching spot Power Rankings by Position:
QB | RB | WR | TE | OL | DL | LB | DB | ST | Coaches: Head Coach | Off. Coordinator | Def. Coordinator

LSU's fall from national-title contention caused Les Miles to plunge in the Power Rankings.

The Tigers controlled their destiny in the national-title sweepstakes before falling 50-48 at home to Arkansas on Friday. Miles had been ranked as the No. 1 coach before the Arkansas game, but this week he fell all the way to ninth in the power rankings, which measure the nation's top players and coaches at each position.

Miles' fall allowed Ohio State's Jim Tressel to regain his status as the nation's No. 1 coach. Ohio State is ranked third in the BCS standings and probably would get a second consecutive trip to the national championship game if Missouri loses to Oklahoma or West Virginia falls to Pittsburgh this week.

The shift in the coaching category represents the only change at the top of this week's power rankings.

Players or coaches remaining atop their respective positions are Florida quarterback Tim Tebow, Arkansas running back Darren McFadden, Texas Tech wide receiver Michael Crabtree, Wisconsin tight end Travis Beckum, Michigan offensive lineman Jake Long, LSU defensive lineman Glenn Dorsey, Penn State linebacker Dan Connor, Arizona defensive back Antoine Cason, Arkansas kick returner Felix Jones, Missouri offensive coordinator Dave Christensen and Ohio State defensive coordinator Jim Heacock.

The rating of a player and coach can fluctuate each week during the season depending on how they fared the previous week, but the power rankings measure overall career performances as well as their most recent results.

By the end of the season, our power rankings should provide an accurate indicator of which players and coaches were the best at their respective positions. Power Rankings by Position:
