Texas LB to camp at LSU

As one of the top linebackers in the state of Texas it should come as no surprise that Chris Williams has received plenty of interest and offers by this point in the recruiting process. LSU is one of many out of state schools that have made Williams a priority. Do they have a shot at the Abilene, Texas standout?

At 6-feet and 230-pounds, Williams runs the 40-yard dash in 4.52 seconds and is a physical presence on the field. He's a big hitter that loves the game and college coaches are enamored with his physical maturity.

"I think I'm supposed to be going to LSU but I'm not sure when," Williams said. "I haven't scheduled it yet. I've just been looking at camp brochures. I'm receiving some mail from them but I haven't had a chance to check my email lately.

"I've talked to Coach Peveto and he's just told me about how they've been handpicking good defensive players and turning them into great players."

Williams recently took a trip to Texas Tech and came away with a good impression of the Red Raiders' football program. He was able to meet and socialize with some of the players but many of them were away for the early part of the summer.

While he has plenty of offers to choose from he said he would still like to hear more from Texas, USC, Ohio State and Oregon. That said, LSU appears to be in a solid position with Williams.

"Oh well they're at the top," he explained. "Winning the national championship and being primarily a defensive team there's nothing more you could want. They're the number one defensive team in the country.

"I just want to be in a good environment and somewhere the defense is going to get after it and play fast sideline to sideline ... just a place where I fit in. I'm looking forward to seeing it all."

Williams said he would late until later in the year -- sometime during his senior season, perhaps -- before he narrows things down or makes a decision. He told TigerBait.com that he is waiting to see if any other schools would offer before he makes any major decisions about his future.

He is rated the No. 10 inside linebacker in the country and is a member of the Rivals250. Williams was active as a junior, tallying 77 total tackles, 26 tackles for loss and nine sacks.
