SoCal DB heats things up in Corvallis

Oregon State has held two half-day camps this summer, and for the most part it's been a chance for the Beavers coaching staff to work with and evaluate prospects to see if they are deserving of scholarship offers. There have been a handful who have come to camp already holding offers and Anthony Carpenter was one of those. The 6-foot, 171-pound cornerback prospect recently came up to Corvallis for camp and came away impressed with what he saw.

"I went to Beavers camp this past weekend and it went pretty good even though I didn't do my best," Carpenter said. "I showed that I could stick to people though. I talked to all of the coaches - Coach (Mike) Riley, Coach (Mark) Banker, Coach (Keith) Heyward - all of them. They all said that they really liked me and said I did some good things, but there are some things that I could get better at."

Two of the things the Beavers coaches noted that Carpenter could work on include his back pedaling and tuning up his one-on-one coverage. In addition to working out hard on the field, Carpenter also got a chance to look around and soak in the surroundings.

"I took a tour of the whole campus and it's a nice campus," Carpenter said. "I like the weight room and the field too - the field is nice."

Carpenter liked what he saw enough to note that OSU is his current leader. He currently also holds offers from Washington State and Nebraska, and Oregon and Arizona State are also looking hard at him. While the Beavers currently lead for his services, he's not looking at making an early decision but instead riding out the process.

"I'm just looking for a great coaching staff and great academics," Carpenter said. "Basically anybody in the Pac-10 would be good. I'll play out the season and then do my official visits."
