Tate discusses commitment

Wake Forest has traveled to Texas, Florida, and elsewhere in search of their first cornerback commitment; but it turns out the corner they were looking for was in their own backyard. Deacons Illustrated caught up with Winston-Salem (NC) Carver defender Dominique Tate to discuss his decision.

"I'm pretty excited about it" Tate said. "I think it's an opportunity for me to play for a great program and get a good education."

Tate who also held an offer from Duke, says that he did a lot of thinking about his decision, and talked it over with the people closest to him.

"My parents and my high school cocahes really talked to me about how good of a decision it would be."

The 5'10" defender received an offer from Wake after an impressive performance at their one-day camp on June 8th. Tate ran a 4.40 in the 40-yard dash and showed why he was able to intercept 7 passes as a junior.

Is Tate completely done with the recruiting process?

"I wouldn't say I'm completely done, but I am a solid commitment" he said.

Tate, who was recruited by Coach Ray McCartney, is listed as a safety but will play corner in college.
