SoCal athlete looks to compete in Corvallis this weekend

Sean Martin feels confident in his abilities. At 6-foot-1, 180-pounds with good speed, the Corona (Calif.) Santiago High School cornerback has already picked up two scholarship offers, but he's on the prowl for more. Martin has been hitting the road hard the last couple of weeks, showing up at a number of college campuses to show coaches his stuff and why he's deserving of their scholarship offer as well.

"The past two weekends I've been going to football camps in the Pac-10," Martin said. "I went to UCLA, Cal, and Arizona State and this weekend I'm going up to Oregon and Oregon State. They've been been going pretty good. I'm showing coaches that I can get the job done and that I can play."

Martin also plays wide receiver for Santiago, but it's his solid size, speed, and playmaking ability at defensive back that have most schools looking at him as a cornerback or safety. He currently holds offers from UNLV and Minnesota and is hearing regularly from the aforementioned schools that he's either camped at or will be camping at - including the Beavers.

"I've got a lot of favorites but no main leaders right now," Martin said. "I'm really interseted in Oregon State and I talk to Coach (Reggie) Davis. We've had a couple of conversations and the things he's told me about the school, the campus life, the small environment, and the whole atmosphere of the city have me excited about going up there to see it in person."

While on campus, Martin will not only look to impress the OSU coaching staff with his skills but will also take his own look to see if Corvallis is a match for him.

"I'm looking for a school that has a good record, good academics, and good surroundings," Martin said. "I want to make a decision before the season starts, but only if I feel comfortable."

BeaverBlitz.com will be sure to check back in with Martin after his camp experience at Oregon State so be sure to stay tuned.
