Clemson's McDaniel arrested on assault charges

CLEMSON, S.C. Clemson safety DeAndre McDaniel has been arrested on charges he covered his girlfriend's head with a comforter and began choking her.

A warrant from the Central Police Department says McDaniel was charged with aggravated assault and battery Saturday.

The incident report says a woman identified as McDaniel's girlfriend said the sophomore also punched her in the head, face and chest, and pushed her down a flight of stairs.

The report says the woman was treated at a hospital for a cervical sprain and contusions.

Clemson athletic spokesman Tim Bourret said in a statement that the athletic department was gathering information about the incident.
