Junior linebacker Darius Dewberry has been suspended for the first two games for his role in damaging property at St. Mary's hospital Saturday night.
According to head coach Mark Richt, Dewberry was one of several players who met teammates Donavon Baldwin and Marcus Dowtin at the hospital after the two were hit in the back of their heads with bottles during a fracas outside a downtown Athens bar early Saturday morning.
Richt said Dewberry has agreed to pay restitution for the damage he caused and will begin working a part-time job to help make the payments.
"Darius is very remorseful for what he's done and he's going to pay the price," Richt said during Monday's press conference at Stegeman Coliseum.
"We also want him to get some counseling and some (20 hours) community service. Once the damage is assessed and there is a price tag, he'll have to repay it."
Richt said that Dewberry will also be allowed to help pay the damage through Pell money and with any stipend the players receive for going to a bowl.
Richt said that Dewberry would address the media after Monday's initial practice.
