Smith to reschedule PSU official

Waldorf (Md.) Westlake athlete Devon Smith was expected to headline the visitors in State College this weekend as the lone official visitor.

But Smith was unable to make the trip to Happy Valley for the Nittany Lions' romp of Oregon State on Saturday due to the remnants of Hurricane Hanna rolling through the area. However, the trip will be rescheduled, according to Smith.

"Coach Larry Johnson called me and told me to schedule another one," he said. "He told me that I shouldn't come, because the weather was going to be bad. It rained a lot down here, the trees were falling on the roads and stuff like that. [Johnson] was telling me that we could just do it at another time."

As of Sunday evening, a replacement date has yet to be set up, but it will likely be when the Nittany Lions play Temple on September 20. The Owls' are Smith's other choice in his top two.

"I am supposed to call on Monday to set something up," he said. "It will probably be for the Temple game in two weeks."

The three-star prospect finally got back onto the field on Friday evening, as Westlake beat the incoming storms, and Calvert, in Smith's first action of the season.

"We played on Friday, but the Saturday games got pushed back and stuff," said Smith. "I did good, I had 190 yards and two touchdowns. I had a 20-yard touchdown catch and an 87-yard touchdown run."

Smith missed most of his junior season due to eligibility issues stemming from a transfer, but looked as if he didn't miss a beat while he was out.

"It feels real good, real good," he said. "This is my first year down at Westlake playing, they love football down here, so that felt really good."

The 5-foot-7, 153-pound prospect was also recently offered by Towson.
