Denton Guyer's deep playoff run this year can be at least partially attributed to the play of their star senior linebacker, Cody Marley. The 5-foot-11, 230-pound inside linebacker just graduated in December, but is still waiting to figure out where he'll attend college.
"Well I graduated high school," Marley said. "Now I've just been working out with a trainer and trying to get in shape during the offseason. As for recruiting, I've been talking to different schools just waiting for things to pan out."
Marley had been in close contact with the coaches at Oklahoma State. However, they recently informed him that they had filled up. Now a new school has entered the picture.
"I've been talking to Pitt recently. They're supposed to come down to see me at the end of the week. They just want to come see me and give me the eyeball test," Marley said. "The two linebackers they had visiting this week didn't commit. He said that if they didn't then he was going to come down here and talk to me and hopefully offer."
Another school that has his interest is South Carolina. The Gamecocks' coaching staff has been in contact with the talented defender for quite some time now, but have yet to offer.
"South Carolina is still talking to me. They said they like my film but they're waiting on the defensive coordinator to take a look at it. They said they want to take one more linebacker and that I'm a candidate," Marley said.
After a great senior season in which Marley racked up 100 tackles, four sacks and three interceptions, plenty of schools have taken notice. In fact he holds offers from UTEP, Tulane and Utah State. However, he says that he'd prefer to play at a bigger school.
"I don't think I'm going to go to any of those schools. I just would rather go to a bigger school if I can. I want to go to a BCS conference team where I'll be playing on TV and playing in bowls," Marley said.
