Beavs earn commitment from WR

The Oregon State football program had a great weekend of visitors, which is already paying dividends. Today, Encino (Calif.) Crespi wide receiver Kevin Cummings alerted BeaverBlitz that he has committed to the Beavers.

The 6-foot-2 wide receiver had spoken with the Beavers earlier this summer, but hadn't heard from them much over the season. He does however have many connections to the program that kept the Beavers on the forefront of his mind.

"My Dad actually played football in Canada and knew Coach Riley when he coached in the CFL," said Cummings. "Coach Banker has been the one recruiting me though."

Cummings also kept up on Oregon State through friends Ryan Katz and Cameron Collins.

"I used to attend Santa Monica High and so we've been friends for awhile," he said. "They've told me how much they like it (Oregon State) and they've told me that it is a good place to be."

So after not hearing much from Oregon State through the season, Cummings committed to San Diego State two days before the Coach Long was let go. His commitment to the Aztecs remained strong until last week when Oregon State touched base with him once again and asked if he was interested in making an official visit to Corvallis.

"The visit was good. We toured the campus and checked out the area," Cummings said. "The coaches are real cool, they are there for the players."

"The highlight was going to a few functions with Ryan (Katz) and seeing the facilities," he said. "I loved the stadium and the new weight room, they are beautiful."

The Beavers are looking for Cummings to join the wide receivers this summer, and it is something that he is looking forward to.

"My strengths are route running and creating separation from the DB's," Cummings said. "It sounds like they'll be looking at me to play outside or in the slot."

Cummings is fully qualified and plans to join the team this July in order to start the BRIDGE Program.
