Following a successful first two events in Phoenix and Las Vegas, the National Underclassmen Combine will kick off their Southwest events in Houston at Westfield HS. The combine will take place for 8th-10th graders Saturday February 21 and 11th graders Sunday February 22. The 2008 combine hosted an impressive group of athletes, many whom are expected to return.
As a sophomore in 2008 Pearland (TX) Dawson runningback Xavier Brown dominated on his way to an MVP award. The 5-11 prospect already has commited to play for the Houston Cougars after high school.
Brown had a 9-foot-2 broad jump and 4.59-forty. In one-on-one drills his amazing footwork and acceleration earned him a spot as the Houston Sophomore overall MVP.
"Xavier is an amazing with a bright future and is a big time D-1A prospect", said NUC president and CEO Dave Schuman.
Superstar cornerback Duran Snoddy will also return to the combine. Snoddy, from Cypress (TX) Cy-Fair, gave a lock down effort in 2008 in one-on-ones and his 4.7-forty and 4.47-shuttle earned him the combine's DB MVP.
In past years, 5 star players such as Alex Okafor of Pflugerville (TX) High and Mason Walters of Frenship (TX) High had participated in the Texas area combine. Both Okafor and Walters are heading to Texas to join Mack Brown's long line of superstar recruits.
With huge potential exposure at the 2009 Houston combine, expect the incoming group of athletes to put in spectacular effort along the Gulf Coast of Houston.
