Lutrus arrested after off-campus fight

UConn linebacker Scott Lutrus was arrested and charged with interfering with police on Thursday night at an off-campus apartment complex.

Lutrus, a linebacker recently named one of the Huskies' four captains for the 2009 season, and his 23-year-old brother Kyle were involved in a fight at the entrance to the Celeron Square apartment complex, according to police reports. The 6-foot-2, 235-pound linebacker resisted being detained and, according to the report, "Lutrus began fighting with officers."

The linebacker was released on $500 bond and is scheduled for a court appearance on May 5.

A two-year starter for the Huskies and a freshman all-American in 2007, Lutrus made a team-high 106 tackles last season after recording 107 tackles his freshman year. Head coach Randy Edsall's captains are typically players of high moral standards who carry themselves well on and off the field.

Phone calls to the athletic department to reach head coach Edsall were not answered.

Thursday marked the beginning of UConn's annual "Spring Weekend," an unsanctioned university event that includes large outdoor parties at both on- and off-campus locations.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
