Anderson, Arrivey, leavitt & Tschida Advance At NCAA Champs

Four Cougar athletes advanced to the finals in their events at the NCAA Track & Field Championships in Fayatteville, Arkansas. The Cougar contingent was led by men's 400-meter hurdler Jeshua Anderson, who finished third overall in the preliminaries with a 50.12 clocking while senior Barry Leavitt turned in a 50.55 for ninth place overall and a spot in the finals.

Anderson and Leavitt were joined by sophomore women's javelin tosser Marissa Tschida, who finished fifth overall in preliminaries with a toss of 51.36 meters [168-6] and junior men's high jumper Trent Arrivey, who leapt 2.10 meters [6-10.75] to finish third and make the finals.

Senior sprinter Justin Woods barely missed the cut for the 100 meters, running a 10.35 in prelims to fall to 19th place overall - a mere .02 seconds shy of the last semi-finals qualifying spot. Making his first NCAA appearance, redshirt junior men's 3000-meter steeplechaser Sam Ahlbeck was unable to extract himself from the preliminary round with a 8:49.88 and failed to advance with a 17th place finish. Senior women's 400-meter hurdler Lorraine King could not repeat last year's magic and also failed to advance with a 58.99 effort that left her in 22nd place overall.

Wazzu individuals will next compete at the NCAA Championship competition on June 11-13 in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
