Two For Two

Two NCAA appearances, two NCAA titles. That is what the ledger reads for Wazzu sophomore men's 400-meter hurdler Jeshua Anderson. The defending NCAA champion successfully defended his title at the NCAA Track & Field Championships in Fayetteville, Arkansas and broke his own school record in the process.

Anderson's main competition was South Carolina sophomore Johny Dutch who entered the race as the 2009 collegiate leader with a 48.58 - a tenth of a second faster than Anderson's PR. But Anderson, running out of lane five, began in his customary smooth gait and gradually overtook Dutch, running in lane six, late in the backstretch and then held off Dutch over a sloppy ninth hurdle to claim his second title in as many tries in a new school record of 48.47. That mark breaks Anderson's old school record of 48.68 set at last year's NCAA championships.

Sophomore javelin tosser Marissa Tschida hurled the spear 50.72 meters [166-5], which was good for sixth place - a vast improvement over last year's 18th-place finish at the NCAA championships.

Junior men's high jumper Trent Arrivey was unable to improve upon last year's third-place NCAA finish and only managed a 2.14-meter [7-0.25] leap which was good for ninth place.

Wazzu men's discus hurler Matt Lamb will next compete at the NCAA Championship competition on June 13 in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
